Which is harder/ more of a challenge for a graphics designer to do? A skin that is flashy, bright colors, shiny graphics or one that is sophisticated, muted colors perhaps, with understated graphics?

Probably for any designer, whatever they have done the most will be the easiest to do ... what with the repetition of it all. It's when you go to do something that is out of your element and what you maybe haven't done a lot of that can make for more of a challenge.
Like, for instance, tech is one of my weaknesses. I have done a little bit of tech graphics but not enough to be good at it. And so if I go to do a tech style graphic it is harder and more of challenge for me and will no doubt take me longer to be satisfied with the outcome.

I see and does it also make a difference as to how much you like the subject your working with/on? Say pure graphics as opposed to a full skin.
Please forgive me if I'm not clear...or use incorrect terms. This is very intersting for me but I know nothing about the graphics side of computers. LOL I actually know NOTHING about computers! I'm from the wrong generation I suppose!

I think that sometimes I can make nicer graphics if the subject is something that interests me as opposed to something that I don't care for. But there have been times that I've come up with some nice graphics where the subject of it was something totally not my thing. I'm basing this on all the graphics I've made for requests. So sometimes I've filled requests for, let's say, wrestling related banners/signatures and while some have turned out nice ... others not so much (in my opinion at least) because wrestling doesn't interest me at all. Then again, it might have something to do with the images or the colors people request. I know what types of images and the quality of images that will work well in graphics and sometimes those requesting graphics don't know. As for skins and such, I don't really know. I haven't done that many skins compared to the many, many individual graphics I've made. I'm not entirely sure that I've answered your question correctly though. But I don't mind the questions ... so if I've not answered right or you have other questions, feel free to post them.

Yeah, sure! If it's interesting and fun to for the designer, he/she will be able to "live themselves into it" and make nicer work!

Yea, it all matter on what the designer likes, their style. It's just matter of you sence of style basicly.

It depends on the designer and also the colors they're working with. For example, I wouldn't ever try and design a skin with bright images and yellow with red boards, that just wouldn't work. I'd try something more like calming colors like teal or green, those don't make you want to rip your eyes out.
