So I finally got Photoshop, and currently I'm trying to learn how to do new things. I'd really like to learn how to smudge, since I'd like to be able to make nice graphics and everything.
I've looked at tutorials by googling them, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do some things. The latest one I've tried is the fate tutorial on here, and I'm confused on what to do after smudging.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The part where it says to use the original and apply it where the colors would even out.

The part where it says to use the original and apply it where the colors would even out. Basically, duplicate the stock picture, but an unsmudged version. One side was too bright with the effects, so he added the stock again to dull the colors a bit.

I tried, but I couldn't figure out where I needed to dull the colors, because it didn't look all that bright to me.

I tried, but I couldn't figure out where I needed to dull the colors, because it didn't look all that bright to me. I'm pretty sure that was an optional step. If you notice, Chaos said that his piece was bright so that's why he did it. If it's not that bright, then skip that step. Tutorials are guidelines - not commandments. If an effect is done to fix a perceived problem in the tutorial image, you don't have to do it if you don't think that problem exists on your image. And I'm typing this with my head looking in the other direction, away from my monitor, because I'm looking at my husband, so sorry for any spelling errors. EDIT: Lol, no errors. Awesome.

I guess that's understandable. ^_^ Oh and no spelling errors.

Exactly as she said, there just there as a guidline. I notice myself going my own way after going through about half of a tutorial. I'll start experimenting with different Filters, and different settings. I use tutorials as more of a suggestion on a way to do something. Haha no spelling errors. Nice! lol

lol. xD Sadly, I make more spelling errors looking at the screen than away. xD
But Candy, I do the same as Crupocalypse - I often also change blending options, or use a different style brush, or whatever.
