Well i think the banner size should be a good forum size. I always use 700x85.

Of all the templates that I've made, most of the time I've used an outline of the forum, like this, so that I can see the progress of the design as it comes along. I usually choose a width that is compatible with 800x600 screen resolutions, if I am making a fixed width design. The largest width for 800x600 screen resolutions I've read is 760. So anything up to that shouldn't create a scroll bar at the bottom. I tend to create the banner first then work on the color scheme of the table, based off of colors used in the banner. As for the buttons, it kind of depends on the design of the forum. I am not always the best at coming up with creative buttons to go along with the design but if I really don't like how the buttons look once I have them done and put in place, I'll go back and make different ones. LOL

Banner sizes usually depends on your display setting. An example would be 1024 by 768 pixels, but the maximum width of the banner is 923 pixels.

OK, ok. How about for backgrounds, though. Like the one here. Is what you did just make the big part, then just have the color in the back? or is the color a part of the bigger part?

Yes, but it's good to take other people's screen resolutions into consideration as well. There may still be a lot of people with a resolution lower than 1024x768. OK, ok. How about for backgrounds, though. Like the one here. Is what you did just make the big part, then just have the color in the back? or is the color a part of the bigger part? I technically am not using a background image ... just a background color. The part which you might think is the background is part of a table design that is wrapped around the boards.

I can't seem to figure out, what makes people choosing below 1024x768 I personally have 1024x768 on my laptop and 1280x1024 on my computer

How did you do that? With three different borders. Is it possible to make tables overlap? Also, how about color choice. I always tend to use just one color and never can find a good color to go with it and fit well with the rest of the skin.

You can "nest" tables to create a multiple border appearance. Here, have a play around at the following URL to see what I mean: creationsbydawn.net/graphic/makeaset.htmlWell, for this design, I decided to use one of the graphic worm pieces that I made ... which just happened to go along with the design of Proboards a bit. And because I was thinking that I would like this forum to also be about Proboards forums (and not just graphics) I added the computer monitors featuring 3 Proboards Forum Designs that I created on the screens. I tend to design the banner first then take colors from the banner and maybe lighten or darken them to use for various other parts of the design.

Aww, I don't really much about other forums than my own, SoCal and this - so, did you design them? Lol, thought you just picked out some lucky forums without reason! xD Well, always getting smarter

Well there were plenty of members that exceeded 1280 by 800 pixels in the forum, but I need to know what width is suitable for a regular forum that varied with different screen resolution. Usually the problem with resizing for 800 by 600 pixels will appear to shrink the forum for those people who exceeds in the maximum display settings.

That's when a percentage width works well.

@ Blu - I also recommend making the banner first. If you're not a superfantasticawesomecoder (which I'm not), I use only a few modifying codes, & the skins/forum colors option on PB. I make the banner first, and whatever colors I come up with, I try to incorporate in my forum layout. ^_^
